Theory: Moff Gideon

Moff Gideon is a character in the television series “The Mandalorian,” set in the Star Wars universe. He is portrayed by actor Giancarlo Esposito. Here are some things we know about Moff Gideon based on the show:

  1. Moff Gideon was an Imperial officer: Gideon is a former member of the Imperial Security Bureau and was a Moff, which is a title given to the governors of sectors within the Galactic Empire.
  2. He was in possession of the Darksaber: The Darksaber is a unique lightsaber that has been passed down through the generations of the Mandalorian people. Gideon is shown to have acquired the weapon and is seen using it in the final episodes of season one and season two.
  3. He is responsible for the death of Mandalorian Din Djarin’s family: Gideon is shown to have been involved in a purge of Mandalore, which resulted in the death of Din Djarin’s family. This is a major motivator for Din’s actions throughout the series.
  4. He was seeking “The Child” (aka Baby Yoda): Gideon was shown to be actively searching for “The Child,” a young member of Yoda’s species who possesses powerful Force abilities.
  5. He is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals: Gideon is shown to be a ruthless and cunning individual who is willing to use any means necessary to achieve his objectives, including torture, deception, and murder.
  6. He was the leader of a remnant of the Galactic Empire: Gideon commands a group of Imperial loyalists who have refused to accept the fall of the Empire and are still actively working to regain power.
  7. He has ties to the mysterious organization known as the “Darksaber”: Gideon’s possession of the Darksaber suggests that he may have some connection to the organization or group that created the weapon.

What if… Moff Gideon is actually from Mandalore? What if he was a part of the Deathwatch and has his own cadre of fanatical Mandalorian who are loyal to him. It would be an interesting twist and make his actions even more divisive. This was born of a comment from Mrs. Multiverse after watching the latest episode of the Mandalorian. It would be far more interesting than if he was just another Imperial Moff either attempting to become the new leader pro-tempore or working for Emperor Palpatine, while his consciousness binds with a clone of himself.
