Zarathustra Comics

Based on Friedrich Nietzsche’s book, “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” and Action Comics number one from 1938. I was heavily influenced by an early version of Bruce Timm’s Superman for the pose, albeit a trimmed down end result from the original. The concept of the Übermensch, Overman, or Superman becoming the center of all things humanity looks to for guidance is something that always fascinated me. The history of two Jewish kids from the Midwest taking this concept and creating what would become the archetypal Superhero, delights me to no end. It was also interesting that before Kal-El came to earth in 1938, Joe and Jerry used the Superman as an antagonist in “The Reign of the Superman” (January 1933).
