On April 26th the world will finally get what it has been clambering for… 1978’s Doctor Strange on Blu-Ray! OK, that was a bit sarcastic, and I won’t even pretend that I’m not excited about this. DS78 is, without a doubt, one of my favorite television movies from the 1970s. It was difficult to find any comic book-related material on television in the dark ages, apart from a few standouts such as Wonder Woman, the Incredible Hulk, or Spiderman. We had a few Saturday morning shows and reruns of Superman, and Batman we could rely on to give us our comic book fix. Doctor Strange was something different. It was special. Although it didn’t have the traditional trappings of the superhero genre, it still kept that basic DNA of the comics. If only it had leaned into its full-throttle like Wonder Woman’s first season did. It may have been picked up as a series if it had been a bit more “fantastical”.
