Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest

Once upon a time, in the far flung past of 2016, a wonderful little show aired for a short run. While I am not sure as to why this show faded out, I do know that I really enjoyed what we got. Covering a wide range of collecting topics, it was really fun watching Mark nerd out about fun collectables.

Best Trailer Drops from SDCC

Wonderful VW rendering by Christina Booth

So, there’s a lot to unpack from this San Deigo Comic Con of 2022. Unlike the past, I wasn’t hanging on every live stream, or report from the big blogger sites, but I just took things as they came. The pandemic has changed how I process everything. These trailers are pretty exciting, but I waited to comment on them, so I had time to digest them. If you are new here, I am not the bleeding edge of nerd news, nor do I care to be. Along with news about Daredevil and X-Men ’97, we got confirmation that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds would be making a return. The toy news is your normal fair, nostalgia reigns supreme through re-issuing old toys, or updating old toys, or reimagining of old toys; not that I have a problem with that. The most exciting toy I saw was a Macross Valkyrie / Robotech Veritech in Battroid mode as a 24″ Shogun Warrior. I neither have the money nor the room for such a piece, but I LOVE the fact that this will exist.

Now… on to the trailers. These are in no particular order. I enjoyed them all. I will say that I am looking forward to the projects that seem to be more about fun than the more serious ones. I can see The Rings of Power becoming a bit burdensome, whereas She-Hulk will be something that I actually look forward to from week to week just like Ms. Marvel.

Godzilla Ultimates Shogun Godzilla 8-Inch Action Figure

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the Super7 ReAction figure for the Shogun Godzilla. The 3¾ figure is a great little monster, and I love mine. Then Super7 announced this guy. It stands a whopping eight inches tall and has all the functionality of the original Mattel toy. The one and only thing that is missing is the wheels on the feet.

Super7 Shogun Godzilla

One of my favorite toys of the late 1970s has to be Mattel’s Shogun Warriors’ Godzilla. It was one of my only brand-new Shoguns, that I didn’t either trade for of purchase second hand at a yard sale. The price point of a decent condition was prohibitive to my purchasing one for my adult collection. Now, not only the price, but the lack of living space keeps my 70s toys collecting in check. This is where Super7 comes in with a 3¾ inch Shogun Godzilla comes in. While it isn’t from the 70s, which violates my 70’s only toys policy, it hits that sweet spot of nostalgia for something that I loved as a child. If Super7 comes out with Rodan… I’ll be breaking my 70s only rule once again. I look forward to that.

I have mine… and yes, I opened it straight away 😉
