A wonderful video that chronicles the journey of Jean Henri Gaston Giraud as an artist. Mœbius’ greatness will never fade away. It only gets brighter with every passing year.
Moebius (Jean Giraud): The Fine Line ‘Tween Detail and Texture

Recently I watched and artist video about what not to do in Digital Art. One highlight of the video boiled down to this… Too much detail, in your piece, becomes texture. This rang true to me. An overworked piece becomes muddy, unless you mean to overwork it then it’s textured. A master of hyper detail and texture is Jean Giraud, a.k.a. Moebius. The texture he renders is purposeful, and the detail is masterful, the hyper detail that borders on texture is perfectly balanced. His style is unique and it’s the first thing I think of when I think of European style illustration. Even then it has a quality that is uniquely Moebius. Taks some time with me to appreciate a miniscule sampling of his work.

“Going from Giraud to Moebius, I twisted the strip; changed dimensions. I was the same and yet someone else. Moebius is the result of my duality.”

Random Moebius Appreciation Post

I adore Jean Giraud’s aesthetic. Moebius’ style reminds me of art from the 1920s, except without any sort of limitation. His lines are clean and beautiful, plus the seemingly random scribbles that represent texture or damage are wonderful.
