The ULTRAMAN SUIT Plastic Model Contest 2021 has finally begun! So, this time, we interviewed one of the judges, Mr. Tatsuomi Hamada! In this judging, we asked him about his thoughts on ULTRAMAN and his commitment to seeing the sculpture.

The Ultraman Suit genre seems to be a growing one. More characters are being added, and that seems to be propelled by maker contests such as this one. This is an interesting read. If you don’t read Japanese, the built-in translation app in your browser will have you covered. The Suits are very modern-day Iron-man’esque but with a very Ultraman feel and a heavy Japanese sensibility. This design aesthetic took me a few minutes of watching the CG anime on Netflix to warm up to, but the story was engrossing, and the logic of the suits made perfect sense. I am actually getting the model kit version of Zoffy from Entertainment Earth in the mail soon… I had some credit built up from my affiliate sales. I will decide if I am going to assemble it, resell it, or use it as a give-away prize on the site.

Space 1999 without the Zippers

My pal, Brian, has made this video about Mattel’s Space 1999 Play sets and it is wonderful. I love the stickers, the lighting effects, and can image the vinyl scent that I must still have a hint of. I am a sucker for a great playset, and this one is no exception. As far as eight-inch(ish) playsets go, this has to be one of the best. While lacking the transporter gimmick of the U.S.S. Enterprise bridge, the usefulness of the play area is not as unlike a moon base as the Star Trek set is unlike a ship. If I had the room to display one, I would seek this one out.

Check out this wonderful video…

Better. Stronger. Faster. The Six Million Dollar Man.

If you speak French, check out the original post where these images come from at Screentoyz. It looks like the author goes into detail about when each of these items were released.

Before Star Wars. Before Micronauts. After G.I. Joe Adventure Team… we had The Six Million Dollar Man. Based on the hit 1973 television program, Kenner released a toy line in 1975. The line consisted of Col. Steve Austin, with several vehicles, accessories and playsets. The likeness of the head sculpt to Lee Majors is uncanny. Along with those we also got Oscar Goldman, Mask-a-Tron, and Bionic Big Foot. I would also consider Jamie Summers the Bionic Woman to be a part of the line as well, even though she was marketed separately for obvious reasons that really have no standing now in a collector’s atmosphere. Her foe, the Fem-Bot, is probably one of the best bad-guy dolls out there. I do consider both lines dolls. If it has accessories plus outfits that can be swapped out and is basically nude without said outfits… it’s a doll in my book. So yes, I fully admit that I played with dolls when I was a child… and now too I guess πŸ˜‰
