Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Saturday morning classic, the Superfriends! On this day in 1973, the Superfriends treated children in North America to this wonderful program. Filled with an ecological theme, along with a morality lesson in every episode, kids were treated with an hour-long story featuring some of their favorite superheroes. For some, it was our first introduction to those heroes. Where I was growing up, I only had Johnny Sako and His Flying Robot, Speed Racer and Ultraman. My heroes were all imported, then in my third year around our local star, I was introduced to these domestic heroes.

The Superfriends is a classic cartoon series that aired from 1973 to 1986, featuring some of the most iconic superheroes of DC Comics. The show followed the adventures of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and other members of the Justice League as they fought against various villains and threats. The Superfriends was one of the first cartoons to introduce a diverse cast of characters, such as the Wonder Twins, Apache Chief, Black Vulcan, and Samurai. The show also had a strong educational and moral message, teaching kids about teamwork, friendship, and social issues.

The show was popular among children and adults alike and has influenced many other superhero media over the years. The Superfriends has been parodied, referenced, and homaged in various shows, movies, comics, and games. Some of the most memorable episodes of the show include “The Challenge”, “The World’s Deadliest Game”, “History of Doom”, and “Superfriends: The Legendary Super-Powers Show”. The show also featured some of the most iconic voice actors of the time, such as Danny Dark, Olan Soule, Casey Kasem, Shannon Farnon, and Frank Welker.

The Superfriends is a timeless cartoon that still holds up today. The show has a nostalgic charm and a campy humor that makes it fun to watch. The show also showcases some of the best aspects of the superhero genre, such as action, adventure, drama, and comedy. The show has a loyal fan base that continues to celebrate and appreciate its legacy. The Superfriends is a must-watch for any superhero fan or anyone who enjoys classic cartoons.

  1. I was just thinking about this show like two days ago! Caught the 90’s reruns on Cartoon Network when I was a kid and fell in love with DC Superheroes in a big way right around the same time my uncle bestowed a big book of Marvel Firsts to my brother and I. It was a pretty good year.
