Go Nagai’s Mazinger Zed

From Energer Z, TitanGoji and KaijuNoir run through the many iterations of Mazinger Z. My first experience with Mazinger Z was the Americanized version, Tranzor Z. I was a bit older at 14ish, as I recall, but I was still into cartoons… I haven’t changed much since then. The show captured my attention because it reminded me of my Shogun Warriors, that I wouldn’t part with until my early 20s, Great Mazinga. The stories were simplistic, probably more due to poor editing and purposefully dumbing it down for the sake of fragile American younglings. I had also been a fan of Go Naigai’s style of art through very limited means, so I recognized the character designs as being his.
