Back in 1981, NPR gave us this audio adaptation of the original Star Wars story. The tale, which you think you know, had so much more than what was filmed and released in 1977. This works as an audio drama, but the pacing and length would have killed the film. It’s one of those relics of the wild west days of Star Wars, untouched by the heavy gauntlet of ridged canon. I adore this audio program and am listening to it again, right now. I’ve not heard this edit before, but so far, it’s a nice edit.

I need to listen to this, always heard it was wonderful.
It’s slow but satisfying. The whole thing seems to make me appreciate the 77 film a bit more for what was edited out for pacing.
