I recent years, companies have been rebranding with an eye toward minimalism. The minimalistic style compliments the notion of “Mobile First” for designers and developers alike. When computers were incorporated as a tool in graphic design, the logos became more intricate and complicated. Now pixel real-estate is pretty tight, and you want to be recognized at a glance on a very small screen.
Warner Bros/Discovery is doubling down on this streamlining by dropping a redundant word from their branding. “Comics”. Sure, DC Comics roles off of the tongue, but the DC stans for “Detective Comics”. I think it is a good move from a practical and design standpoint. I wonder why they didn’t choose to use Action Comics (AC) as their name… it would have made more sense. Just a thought.
