Probably the most interesting news out of the Sandiego ComicCon is the reveal of the upcoming X-Men ’97 animated series. Being an X-Men fan from the 70s, and up, when the series premiered in 1992, I was ecstatic. Sure, I was 22 excited for a cartoon, but it was well written and had plenty of fun “easter eggs” to watch out for here and there. The show played fast and loose with the comics history, but it was entertaining enough to make it easier to overlook that.

This brings us to the Autumn of 2023… OK, I am getting ahead of myself. My hopes are that the stories will be even richer, and not the same as the original series. The designs of the characters have not changed much. I am torn about this. While I get keeping the same design aesthetic, I also would appreciate something new. Nostalgia is great, but it can also get in the way of new things that could be just as cool and fun. Either way, I am looking forward to this project seeing the light of my LED television.

Kudos for the team changing Magneto’s design. That was a pretty bold move. Not many will remember this look from the comics, but I do.
