Geek Zen: Acceptance

Geek Zen: Think about a thing that you hate the most. Find ONE thing, no matter how trivial, that you like about it. It could be the background music, a color pallet, panel layout, choreography, etc. Enjoy that one thing for what it is. You may be surprised at how many more pleasant things come to your attention.

There was a time when I would complain about every little thing that a movie or TV show got wrong. I would discuss this for hours with others of like minded, unhappy, fanatics. Railing against Lucas, or something as equally inconsequential. Then one day I began to see things from a “certain point of view”, and I looked for little gems in what I had deemed to be a pile of Bantha Poodoo.

Are there still things that I don’t like? Sure, but I endeavor to look beyond them. I may even skip a few panels, chapters, tracks, or minutes of a film. I choose to enjoy things for what they are. It’s nice to be able to enjoy most of the special editions, and the prequels, among other things now.

Try it. It’s better to have a great time than it is to troll about it. Heck, the only thing I will be brutally critical about is my own work.
