There Can Only Be One… Highlander. Or two, possibly more if the money is there. OK, I didn’t intend to roast this series, but to praise it. It impetus for this entry is the Pluto app’s “Gamming” channel which plays the series in the evenings.
Pardon me if I gush a bit.
Highlander was a spin off series that began in 1992 and ran for six season. It usually found under the genre of Sci-Fi, but this is more fantasy than any sort of science. Sometimes the stories were a bit on the simple side but mostly, with the assistance of relevant flash back to some point in Duncan’s 300 years of life, the plots were compelling. The swordplay brought me into the show, the charisma of Adrian Paul kept me coming back for more each week.
The supporting characters were solid, although Ritchie was written to be annoying at times. Many of the women are beautiful, and everybody on the show looks well enough when they are fighting. Having trained for more than two thirds of my lifetime, I can tell when people don’t know what they are doing. Sometimes it is forgivable when you can tell they are trying their best. The show really excels at the physical, and cultural representation for the time.
I am still envious of MacLeod’s Dojo and his flat above.
