Universal Studios Teams up with Mego for The Creature from the Black Lagoon

I don’t know about you, but the creature has always captured my imagination. Like Frankenstein’s Monster and King Kong, he was the the victim of “humanity”. Misunderstood, and being judged by appearance and the laws of mankind (more like mancruel), the creature was supposedly the “missing link” (a term that many don’t understand or use incorrectly) between man and their origins from the seas that spawned them. Most importantly the suit that the stuntman/actor Ben Chapman wore and swam around in was EPIC!

So as you probably know by now, I no longer collect toys. One part finances, two parts lack of space as we are relocating into a 5th Wheel trailer, and three parts of I am getting tired of most things that I have to dust and care for. I can get joy from looking at photographs of other friends collections… I don’t need to own everything. Lately I have felt that my prized toys owned me, and not the other way around.

Having said that, I still plan on grabbing one of these guys. Just on principle. There is an Ultraman on the way from Mego as well and, even though I am a hardcore Ultra fan, I’ll be passing on it. The Gillman should be hitting shelves in Walmart, and other places, this month (Nov 2020) but I would order yours online, like I’ll be doing with Entertainment Earth.

  1. As I am literally in the middle of writing a paper about the Creature movies, so I’m going to be a pedant and mention that while Chapman was the Creature for the land based scenes of the first film, it was Ricou Browning who did the underwater scenes in all three movies.
