A New Appreciation for Hawkeye

In the comics, Hawkeye was never a favorite character. He was always a Green Arrow analog to me. His one interesting feature was that he started out as a villain.

Due to my aversion to large crowds, and poor timing, I have only just recently watched Avengers: Endgame. I was blown away by the sheer scope of the film. More than that, I was impressed with Jeremy Renner’s character of Hawkeye. It’s not that I didn’t like his character, it felt he was just there as sort of a plot device. It’s amazing how in a film packed full of so many heavy hitting actors, that Jeremy’s Clint Barton stood out to me. His humanity, and how he dealt with his grief, and his willingness to sacrifice everything really spoke to me.

I hope to see Hawkeye in Blackwidow’s upcoming film. Perhaps we’ll finally find out what happened in Budapest.

I really did like the inclusion of his Ronin persona was a great inclusion. How about you? Did you like the portrayal of Hawkeye in Avengers: Endgame?

  1. if you want to be awakened into the love of Hawkeye read Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye run and then dive into Kelly Thompson’s spin off of Hawkeye: Kate Bishop. Never thought much of Hawkeye myself and now I actually seek them out!
